The Project is divided into three distinct phases: (i) the development of 2 buildings on the westerly portion of the site: the light industrial building and a 14-story, 183-unit affordable housing building (Building 1A and Building 1B, respectfully, together known as “Phase 1”) (ii) 364 units of affordable housing built in two 14- and 17-story buildings sharing a common garage and open plaza (“Phase 2”) and (iii) a 13-story building with 200 units of affordable housing built on the easterly portion of the site bordered by Manida Street and Spofford Avenue (“Phase 3”). ![]() ![]() The Project will also include about 60,000 SF of plaza open recreational space and community facility uses. The Peninsula Project consists of a 5-acre site that will soon be home to 740 affordable housing units, a two-story, 56,000 SF light industrial facility as well as a healthcare facility and grocer (the “Project”). In 2016 the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) awarded the Peninsula JV, LLC the redevelopment project of the former Spofford Juvenile Detention Center into a mixed-use live/work campus known as The Peninsula that will help revitalize the Hunts Point neighborhood.
